Music video inspiration

After deciding on the song choice and genre of the music video we needed inspiration from a music video that is similar to our vision. I we looked at various different hip-hop music videos to gain inspiration. I came across 'Kanye West-All falls down' which is a sub genre music video which holds a combination of Hip-Hop and R'n'B, I also looked at 'Tyler the creator- Yonkers' as it is a interesting narrative and holds various different shots. I chose these because they are not ordinary Hip-hop videos they are both sub-genre and have odd shots/effect/editing techniques that would not be expected in a hip-hop music vide for example in the Kanye West music video a point of view shot is used throughout the whole video and the Tyler the creator video shows the artist by himself doing strange activities such as eating cockroaches. I hope that we can incorporate alternative concepts into our music video.

Both videos follow the codes and conventions of a music video which include having

-An ongoing beat
-An artist rapping
-Diagetic sound (to create a sense of verisimilitude)
-Portrayal of life e.g. Tyler having suicidal thoughts and Kanye being used for his money by his girlfriend.

In order to start making our music video we needed to decide altogether on a music video. We decided to choose 'Pharcye-Drop' because we all have analysed this video in previous coursework and concluded that the editing used does not convey typical stereotypes of a hip-hop music video and therefore felt as if we could create something similar. We chose to analyse the music video whilst in front of a green screen, each of us commented on different aspects of the music video that we felt was valid.

The following images show D'mee and I filming our analysis with the help of a media technician in Harris South Norwood's TV studio.

The following Youtube video shows D'mee, Georgina and I analysing the music video.

This video shows our outakes; I decided to edit this to show that presenting in front of a camera is actually very hard. From my experience of this I can say that I now have an understanding of what it is like to be in front of a camera whilst in front of teachers, friends/group members and technicians, it is extremely agonising, so much so that in the end I had asked everyone to come out of the studio until I had finished. I as well as my group members made plenty of mistakes when talking; we became frustrated with ourselves, became impatient but to overcome this when we made mistakes we often carried on and we attained advice from our technicians and support from one another
